About Newhaven
Newhaven is a town on the south coast of England, situated midway between Brighton and Eastbourne. It is home to approximately 12,000 people and has a long history as a cross-channel port - with passenger and freight services to France having been in almost continual operation since 1863. Newhaven has also seen its fair share of military action - particularly as a transport port - and Newhaven Fort bears witness to this, making a popular attraction for visitors to the area.
Newhaven's long history as a port means that it also has unusually good rail connections for a modestly-sized town. Newhaven has two railway stations - Newhaven Town and Newhaven Harbour. Newhaven is also connected to the A27 trunk road by the A26 and lies on the A259, which runs east from Brighton.
