About Penrith
The Cumbrian town of Penrith is home to nearly 15,000 people and lies alongside the M6, just outside the Lake District National Park. Although agriculture plays a major role in the area's economy, tourism is also important. Attractions for visitors to Penrith include Penrith Castle and nearby Brougham Castle.
The northern end of Ullswater, reckoned by many to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the Lake District, is also only a few miles south-west of Penrith. A cruise on Ullswater is a very peaceful way to spend an afternoon and highly recommended. Penrith is also close to Mayburgh Henge, one of the best-preserved Neolithic henges in Cumbria and nearly 10 feet high in places.
