About Rugby

Once a major railway engineering location, Rugby also provided the setting for the Charles Dickens story Mugby Junction and is also well known as the birthplace of Rugby football, at Rugby School. The inventor of the jet engine, Frank Whittle, also did much of his pioneering work in Rugby. To top off this roll call of inventions and inspirations, holography was also invented in Rugby, in 1947.
Attractions for visitors to modern-day Rugby include the Rugby Art Gallery & Museum and the Rugby Football Museum, where visitors can see made and buy hand-made Rugby footballs.
