About Sunderland

Sunderland is a large city in the north-east of England. Home to more than 175,000 people, Sunderland has a long history as an industrial centre, shipbuilding hub and trading port. It's origins can be traced back nearly 1,000 years to 1179, when the fishing village of Sunderland was granted its charter.

Attractions in and around Sunderland include the award-winning Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens; the indoor winter gardens have more than 2,000 tropical plants and flowers. Also popular is the Sunderland Empire Theatre, which hosts West End musical productions and first opened in 1907. Sports lovers are drawn to the city's indoor ski slopes and to Roker's surfing and diving facilities - not to mention the city's football club, Sunderland AFC, who play in the Premier League.

The Wearside area of the north-east remains heavily populated and relatively industrial - in this context it is no surprise that van hire in Sunderland is easy, with a full range of rental vans on offer from local hire companies:

  • Medium / short wheelbase vans - e.g. Ford Transit, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
