About Uxbridge
The town of Uxbridge is part of Greater London and lies in the London Borough of Hillingdon, for which it is the administrative centre. Uxbridge is to the west of central London and is about 15 miles from Charing Cross and just five miles from Heathrow Airport.
Uxbridge is home to Brunel University and also has a RAF base, which became famous during World War II when it was the headquarters for RAF Fighter Command. The town's long history was confirmed when Bronze Age artefacts were found during the excavation of footings for a new building and the town has a pub that is thought to date back to the mid-16th century.
Uxbridge is at the outer limits of the London Underground network - both the Metropolitan and the Piccadilly lines terminate at the town, thus connecting it directly with central London and interconnecting with bus services to other nearby towns.
