About Waltham Abbey

Situated just to the north of the M25, the Essex market town of Waltham Abbey is a popular choice of home for London commuters and those working to the north of the capital. It has a population of more than 20,000 and benefits from direct road and rail links into central London.

Of course, Waltham Abbey wasn't always this convenient for the City, which is about 15 miles away. The town's name results from the construction of an abbey in the village of Waltham Holy Cross during the 12th century. A 17th century timber-framed house which served as the abbey vicarage remains intact today and has been listed for preservation.

Other buildings of note in Waltham Abbey include the 15th century half-timbered pub in the market square and the Art Nouveau-style town hall, which dates from 1904. Waltham Abbey has little in the way of industry or commerce and is largely residential. But the town's size means that a good range of local services are available, including van rental:
