About Dundee

Dundee, on Tayside, is Scotland's fourth largest city. It has a long history as an industrial and fishing centre - with industries such as jute, whaling and publishing having played a large role in the development of the city during the industrial revolution.

Today most of the city's industries are gone - with only publishing firm DC Thomson remaining as one of the city's largest employers. Today the economy in the area is much more mixed, with a range of smaller high tech, retail and manufacturing concerns based in the area.

Modern Dundee has expanded to include nearby villages and towns such as Monifieth, Invergowrie and Birkhill and has a total population of around 175,000. The city boasts two universities - the University of Dundee and the University of Abertay Dundee - and consequently has a large student population. As you would expect, Dundee has a large number of van hire companies offering a wide range of rental vans:

  • Medium vans - e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
