About Ellesmere Port

Ellesmere Port is a large town on the River Mersey, about 10 miles from Birkenhead and Liverpool, which is on the other side of the river. The town has a population of more than 55,000, many of whom are employed directly or indirectly at local industrial concerns such as Stanlow oil refinery and the town's well-known car factory.

As you'd expect, Ellesmere Port's transport connections are good. The town is connected to the M56 motorway by the M53 and benefits from direct rail links to Chester and Liverpool and close proximity to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Visitors to the area may be surprised by the breadth of attractions. In addition to several unusually large retail outlets, Ellesmere Port is home to a large aquarium and to the National Waterways Museum.

The town's large size and diverse mix of industry, service sector and residential population means that van hire is in constant demand. Expect a good range of vans to be available at most times:

  • Medium vans - e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
