About Liverpool John Lennon Airport
Liverpool John Lennon Airport was officially opened in 1933, making it one of the UK's oldest civilian airports. It benefits from a superb location and unusually good weather conditions - fog is rare, reducing the likelihood of weather-related disruption to flight schedules.
In 2007, 5.5 million passengers used the airport and it provides scheduled services to more than 60 domestic and European destinations - in addition to seasonal charter flights to popular holiday locations. Annual passenger throughput is forecast to reach 8.3 million by 2015, with new services planned to meet the continually increasing demand.
The airport itself is 7 miles south east of Liverpool city centre and sits alongside the River Mersey. Road connections are good - the M62 is two miles north of the airport, providing easy access to the M6 and M57. In addition to Liverpool, Liverpool Airport is close to Runcorn, Widnes and Birkenhead.
