About Halifax
Halifax, in West Yorkshire, is located just to the south of the Pennines and close to the M62 - main east-west motorway for the north of England. Historically the centre of the wool industry, today it is better known as the home of the former Halifax bank, once the UK's largest mortgage lender, now part of a bailed-out HBOS which in turn has become part of Lloyds TSB.
Popular attractions for visitors to Halifax include Piece Hall, a Grade I listed building that was established in the late 18th century as a marketplace for textiles, then a major local industry. Other places that are popular with visitors are the Halifax Borough Market - voted Best Indoor Market 2008 - and the Bankfield Museum, which contains exhibitions about textile production.
