About Haverfordwest
Haverfordwest is the second largest town in Pembrokeshire and has a long history as a regional trading centre and market town. There has been a settlement in the area since at least the 12th century, when the first Norman castle was established. The town was the capital of the English colony of Roose in the 12th century - this strange situation led to Haverfordwest being granted the trading privileges of an English borough in the early 13th century.
The town is situated on the tidal Cleddau River and in the past was visited by seagoing ships for trading purposes. Today, the area around the river is mostly residential and has been redeveloped in recent years.
