About Leeds Bradford Airport
Leeds Bradford International Airport was established as the Leeds and Bradford Municipal Aerodrome in 1931. The first scheduled service started in 1935 but like many civil aerodromes, civilian use was stopped with the outbreak of war in 1939 and the airport became a testing base for military aircraft for the duration of hostilities.
The post-war years saw Leeds Bradford Airport grow steadily. Today, it handles well over 2.5 million passengers per year and also serves as home to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Plans are underway to redevelop much of the airport's infrastructure and further growth looks likely in the years ahead.
