About Merthyr Tydfil
With a population of more than 60,000, Merthyr Tydfil is the fourth-largest urban area in Wales. Historically, the town was home to many coal mines and ironworks, but these fell into decline during the early part of the 20th century and today the town's economy is far more mixed, with a mix of light industry, service sector and public sector employers.
Residents and some local businesses also benefit from their proximity to the rural attractions of the Brecon Beacons National Park, which draws many thousands of visitors each year. Merthyr Tydfil's size and location means that it benefits from a full range of local services, including van hire. A fairly typical range of rental vans should be available at most times.
