About London Paddington
Paddington is probably best known for Paddington Station and St Mary's Hospital, which opened in 1845 and is one of the UK's oldest and most important hospitals. Paddington Station has a similarly impressive history - designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, it opened in 1838 and has always been the terminus of the main western railway line from London to the south-west of England.
Today, around 33m passengers pass through Paddington Station every year, and passengers can travel direct to stations as far west as Penzance, where the Great Western Railway terminates, as well as to suburban commuter destinations such as Maidenhead, Oxford, Ealing, and Hayes and Harlington.
Other points of interest in Paddington are Paddington Green Police Station, which is the UK's highest-security police station, and is usually used to hold terrorist suspects who are under interrogation.
