About Preston

Originally a small market town, Preston in Lancashire only achieved city status in 2002. The original market town was developed heavily during the 19th century, making it much larger and more industrial. The famous St Walburge's Church sits in the centre of Preston; its spire is 94 metres high, making it the tallest church not to be a cathedral!

Well known for getting easily congested due to visitors flocking to the Lake District and Blackpool, a by-pass of the town was built and opened in the late 1950s. This was to become part of the M6 and was the very first section of motorway to be constructed in the UK. With rail connections to London, Liverpool and Manchester and direct links to the M6 and M56 motorways, Preston is well connected to the rest of the UK.

Van hire in Preston is well provided for and local companies offer most types of hire van:

  • Medium vans - e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
