Europcar is to roll out a thumbprint identification scheme to all of its 130 UK branches. Vehicle theft is a major problem for rental companies and the scheme is intended to discourage potential theives.
The new model Citroen Dispatch has won Professional Van & Light Truck’s Compact Van of the Year award at the Commercial Vehicle show in Birmingham.
The Dispatch has been a popular choice with drivers ever since it was launched, thanks to its car-like dimensions and van-like capacity.
Ford won a host of awards at the recent Fleet World awards, including the Van Manufacturer of the year awards and the Security award.
The new Transit was chosen as Best New Van against stiff competition, and its security features were praised too – a significant factor for many van users.
Europcar is the first van hire company in the UK to allow you to rent vans by the hour. The service is available from all Europcar’s UK offices, for rental periods of up to 8 hours.
Budget is opening nine new car and van hire locations across the UK in 2007, expanding its already large network of outlets.

It looks like Sixt and Europcar have been competing to see who can produce the most impressive-looking hire booth. Unfortunately for UK van renters these pictures were taken at Hamburg airport – but here’s hoping that these designs make their way to our shores in the future.

National Car Rental’s new partnership with Volkswagen looks to be bearing fruit as the car and van hire company will be replacing much of its fleet with brand-new Volkswagen vans and cars as 2007 progresses.
